Course Title: Phlebotomy Technician Training Program  

Course Length:9 Weeks  

Location: National School of Health Careers – Chicago, IL  


Course Overview: 

The Phlebotomy Technician Training Program at the National School of Health Careers is designed to provide students with the essential knowledge and hands-on skills required to become a competent and professional phlebotomist. This course prepares students to collect, handle, and process blood specimens for diagnostic testing in clinical, hospital, and laboratory settings. The program integrates theoretical instruction with practical lab experience, ensuring students gain proficiency in venipuncture, capillary puncture, specimen handling, and infection control.


Course Objectives: 

By the end of this course, students will be able to:  

Demonstrate knowledge of anatomy and physiology related to the circulatory system.  

Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection techniques safely and effectively.  

Understand and apply infection control and safety measures, including OSHA and HIPAA compliance.  

Properly handle, label, and transport specimens for laboratory analysis.  

Recognize complications, troubleshoot collection issues, and provide appropriate patient care.  

Prepare for the Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) exam through a structured curriculum and hands-on training.  


Program Structure:  

Lecture & Theory (40%) Covers medical terminology, anatomy, infection control, and legal/ethical considerations.  

Laboratory & Hands-On Training (60%) Includes live venipuncture practice, specimen processing, and mock clinical scenarios.  

Clinical Externship as per state regulations Provides real-world experience in a clinical or laboratory setting.  


Certification Eligibility:

Upon successful completion of the program, students will be eligible to sit for the Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT)  exam through nationally recognized certifying bodies such as  NHA.


Admission Requirements:

High school diploma or GED  

Minimum age of 18  

Completion of a background check and immunization per state requirements 


Career Opportunities:

Graduates of this program can pursue careers in hospitals, laboratories, blood donation centers, physician offices, and other healthcare settings as Phlebotomy Technicians, Lab Assistants, or Medical Assistants with Phlebotomy Certification.
